Barry met his girlfriend Melanie Eam through gaming as they both were hardcore gamers. Eam was described as a shy and soft-spoken girl but things went south after Barry decided to end their relationship.

Later they found out, he tried many times to end their relationship. But Eam didn’t want to leave Barry and used to be quite distraught.

Eam’s mother sexually abused her daughter. According to a psychologist, her mother suffered from PTSD after her parents were killed in Cambodia. 

Barry’s family released an obituary in his memory. He was loved by everyone around him.

On January 10, 2019, Melanie Eam was charged with second-degree murder for stabbing her boyfriend James Barry to death. She was sentenced to 50 years in prison and is scheduled for release in 2066.

James Barry was only 21 years old at the time of his death.

Barry’s family requested the maximum sentence for the murder. After the sentence, they were happy that their son’s murderer will spend the rest of her life inside the prison.
